In the meantime I have corrected an error in Swords of Mars as well, many thanks for making me aware of it.
I finished converting all the books of the series. Enjoy the adventures of John Carter of Mars and let me know what do you think!
Thanks for doing this! In Synthetic Men at the end of chapter 20 there's an error:
ReplyDelete"This page contains the following errors:
error on line 91 at column 4: Encoding error
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error."
though there's nothing after that and chapter 21 looks fine. I can send you an iPad screenshot if you'd like
Hi Thanks for the feeback. Unfortunately I do not have an iPad, but if you help me out to understand where the problem lies, I certainly can fix it. So the line 89 is
ReplyDelete"Ay-mad knows nothing about it," I replied. "It is a little fiction of my own which I invented to deceive the captain of the gate and the commander of the party that recaptured you."
This should display just fine, if I understood it correctly. The line 91 would be
"But how did you know that I had been recaptured and that I would be returned to Morbus today? It is all very confusing and baffling; I cannot understand it."
And from this point it should be missing. But I cannot see any error in the format of the line. Can you please confirm to me that I am searching at the right place?
I have uploaded a newer version, that is has the same content, but is compressed manually with a different program. Just to avoid that the error comes from compacting the content. Which I do not think. Can you please check the new one? It is the same link. Thank you very much for your contribution.
The last lines before the error are
ReplyDelete"What!" exclaimed Anatok. "Well, if that is so, he shall have his wish. There is nothing that we like better than a good fight. With what weapons would you like to fight?"
"I will fight with anything that my antagonist chooses," I replied."
It picks up after that with the next chapter. I tried downloading it again; it seems to still have the same error. The same thing happened in a Mac e-reader.
Well, that is very interesting. It is most certainly a bug / spcial feature in the Apple Software, since this is the very last line and all html tags are closed properly. Thanks for the information, I was able to reproduce it on my iPhone. I am working to solve it, but seems to be no easy job. I will let you know when I did some progress.
ReplyDeleteI have found it and fixed it. It was very misleading, actually the error was in chapter 21, line 91. I have uploaded the new version, please let me know if it works now for you.
ReplyDeleteHint: I had to delete the book first from my library on the iPhone, so that it downloaded the new version.
Works fine, thanks!
ReplyDeleteFound and corrected another small error in John Carter and the Giant of Mars. It seems that special characters like ê are not supported and reported as errors only on Apple devices. Sony ebook Reader fails silently, without reporting them (but the content after the error is not displayed anymore).
ReplyDeleteIf you see some other errors let me know and I will correct them.
thanks for taking the time to do this! I have them all on my iphone now (using ibooks without any problem to read them) and am ejoying readinh them all...again! warm regards form sunny el salvador, Tony
ReplyDeleteOutstanding efforts on your behalf. Thank you very much
ReplyDeleteYou are the warlord of books. Thanks SO much....and i miss ghek lmao
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting these! I have read the first couple of these and they are awesome stories...I can''t wait to read the rest. Thank you for taking the time to format them all in epub and add covers. They work great on my nook!
ReplyDeleteInfo: I cannot recover access to this old BLOG of mine, so I decided to duplicate it to http://edgar-rice-burroughs-ebooks.blogspot.de. I will only be able to update there, so please update your links. I have also changed all links, so that this blog does not work properly anymore.
